Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner

Please join us at our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner on Feb.17, 2026 from 5-7pm. Free dinner - donations are welcome to help cover costs. Troy Gates and friends will entertain us with their wonderful fiddle tunes (youtube.com/@FiddleTuneswithTroyGates).

'Shrove Tuesday': The day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. Traditionally this meant it was the last opportunity to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, sugar and meat before the Lenten fast. Thus the pancakes!

The name 'shrove' comes from the word 'shriving' (of a priest), which means listen to someone's sins and then absolve them. In the past, Christians would use the day to confess their sins.

Canada Day BBQ

Each year St. George's offers a BBQ (on the church lawn) and pie for dessert (in the parish hall) during the Canada Day festivities in Fort Saskatchewan.
